1. Pentax O-GPS1 for travelers and astronomy photographers
Pentax SLRs have enhanced capabilities for geotagging with the O-GPS1 accessory. When enabled, the O-GPS1 can capture and record valuable metadata, such as longitude, latitude, altitude, time, and location of capture. Currently, the Pentax K-5, Kr, and 645D models are compatible with the O-GPS1 accessory. Geotagging with the O-GPS1 can help photographers keep track of their shots, view their photos in a map view, and add data to images for cataloging. This accessory is an ideal tool for those wanting to take their photography to the next level and make the most out of their Pentax SLR camera.
In addition, it also comes with Astrotracker. When attached to the K-5 or Kr Hotshoe (which is equipped with the Shake Reduction or SR system), it can calculate the movement of stars, planets, and other astronomical bodies using the latitude obtained from GPS as well as that obtained from magnetic and acceleration sensors. This allows the Astrotracker to change the image sensor at the same time as the object is moving. This makes stars and other objects look like solid points instead of lines. This technology makes it easy to photograph deep-sky astronomical objects without the need for an additional equatorial telescope. Astrophotographers of all skill levels can benefit from the convenience and enhanced image clarity made possible by the Astrotracker.
Meanwhile, the Electronic Compass on the O-GPS1 shows the direction of the user’s position accurately on the monitor. This function works with geomagnetism detected by the magnetic sensor on the camera and combines it with GPS location data. Even better is the Simple Navigation, which allows photographers to find their favorite photo locations easily. Simple Navigation calculates the direction and distance to a particular destination from the user’s position. Thus, users can find the destination using the data stored on the image or registering/uploading location data created on a PC.
The O-GPS1 can be used in light rain conditions, making it a true all-weather companion.
