Balikpapan is the capital of the island of Kalimantan, which has a total area of 743,330 km² and a population of 14 million. Out of this population, 10.2 million are Telkomsel customers, which is an impressive number and surpasses that of its competitors. Telkomsel provides a wide range of services, including mobile, internet, and digital payment services, which remain popular among the population of Kalimantan. With their services, Telkomsel has made a significant impact on the lives of many people in the area, improving their quality of life.
“Other operators have limited teledensity, while we have reached all corners of Kalimantan. “So naturally, we get the biggest trust from consumers,” said Hendro Tri Cahyono, GM of Regional Sales & CS Kalimantan.
Hendro further said that to increase teledensity, his party is adding 500-600 base transceiver stations (BTS) from the existing 3000 BTS. It is expected that with this addition, there will be a significant increase in the number of subscribers. “We are confident that the strength of Telkomsel’s network, services, and technology in Kalimantan will trigger growth in the number of subscribers,” said Hendro.
Another commitment is that Telkomsel increases the capacity for data services and upgrades the technology from GPRS to EDGE BTS. “This is to improve the quality of fulfilling data services,” said Hendro.
The curly-haired man also said that mobile broadband services in Kalimantan are very potential for significant growth in revenue, number of subscribers, and data usage. For data services, TelkomselFlash and Blackberry services reached 3,000,000 subscribers. This figure makes Kalimantan the second-largest user of data services after Jabotabek.
Corporate Market
What makes mobile broadband in Kalimantan so fast? With its natural resources, oil, gas, and mining, Kalimantan has contributed to the high usage of data services. “There are many foreign companies engaged in mining, gas, and oil. Every day they have to report to the head office in Jakarta. So the connecting service is data services,” explained this calm-looking man.
