The slim, lightweight design is functional and stylish with a 3D sensor HDD to keep your device safe, even during movement. The Toshiba Portege has long been one of the best ultraportable notebooks on the market. The R830 continues this tradition by providing a small, lightweight computer. With its mini body, the Portege R830 can carry a range of features including the latest Intel Core processor and long battery life. It is the perfect device for those who need a dependable, yet stylish device.
The R830 business notebook is fit for the dynamic professional on the go. Its slim design, weighing only 1.4 kg, makes it easy to transport in a briefcase or suitcase. The device is equipped with a second-generation Intel Core i5 processor, ensuring it has the power to tackle any task. To further increase its portability, the R830 includes a 3D sensor HDD feature that safeguards data from damage caused by impact while in transit. Thanks to this feature, it can be used confidently on the move. With its impressive power and portability, the R830 is truly worthy of being a leader in its class.
Durability
The Toshiba Portege R830 is a stylish notebook that comes in three unique color options: metallic black, red, and blue. The laptop is crafted from durable, brushed-metal magnesium and features chrome accents on the hinges for an extra touch of sophistication. The dark gray gloss on the touchpad buttons adds a sense of modernity and style to the device. Designed with convenience in mind, the Portege R830 is lightweight yet very sturdy, making it the perfect companion for anyone on the go. With its attractive and sexy design, the Toshiba Portege R830 is sure to make a statement wherever you take it.
The Portege R830’s slender and lightweight design does not compromise on durability. Its robust structure provides the notebook with a flexible layer of protection, safeguarding it from any potential shocks and impacts. This has been validated through rigorous tests conducted by the independent German institute, TÜV Rheinland. Their HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Test) saw the R830 fall from a height of 76 cm and withstand a 100 kg load on its LCD screen with no damage to the data storage or the notebook itself. Furthermore, the notebook was doused with 30ml of liquid with no impact on its performance. These tests demonstrate the durability and robustness of the Portege R830, providing users with assurance.
Keyboard & Touchpad
The Toshiba R830 has a chiclet-style keyboard with tactile feedback that is quite satisfactory. It offers similar key travel as its competitors, but the keys do feel smaller when compared to other 13-inch notebooks. This can make typing feel a bit cramped, especially when used by those with larger hands. It takes some practice and getting used to before one can type comfortably and quickly on it. However, with enough patience, users can get used to the keyboard and find it quite satisfactory, with good tactile feedback and responsiveness.
Fortunately, Toshiba provides a slightly roomy touchpad for easy desktop navigation, which already supports multitouch gestures. However, we recommend not activating the multitouch gestures for practical purposes, as often the cursor jumps or accidentally pinch to zoom without users intending to do so. The two touchpad buttons are a little small in size, but we quite liked them in terms of functionality, as they provide a good click response. In addition, Toshiba has added a new and convenient fingerprint feature between the buttons. This makes it easier for users to access the touchpad without looking at it first. This further enhances the user experience by allowing for quick and secure access.
Screen
The Toshiba R830’s 13.3-inch LED-backlit display boasts a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, which produces a vivid, bright image. We tested the device with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 in 1080p and were very impressed by the colors and the level of detail. Even in dark scenes, the image remained crisp, and we could easily make out the wrinkles on Dumbledore’s forehead. We also noticed minimal visual noise and the viewing angles were quite narrow, making this display ideal for single-person viewing. Overall, the Toshiba R830’s display is an impressive feature that enhances the viewing experience for a wide range of content.
Ports & Webcam
Toshiba provides a wide range of ports to meet the needs of its users. On the right side of the device, there are ports for an RJ45, USB 3.0, audio and microphone jacks, a DVD drive, and an SD card reader. The left side features ports for AC power, VGA, eSATA, USB, and HDMI. Customers will also find a docking port located on the bottom of the notebook, allowing them to connect to the Toshiba Port Replicator PA3838E-1PRP. In addition, Toshiba has integrated a webcam with SmartFace technology for added security. SmartFace technology reads faces and uses them as passwords to log onto the device.
